Paper, ink, a fine rule, and a vermilion reading mark. The page borrows the restraint of a printed book without imitating a historical edition or adding symbols to the source.
Chinese and English remain in the order you wrote them. Heading levels, emphasis, quotations, tables, and notes are rendered from the Markdown; no translation is generated or corrected.
One reader, many works
Eightchord is the home for this collection. Inside a reading room, the open work supplies its own title, Chinese title, and credits. No book, author, or tradition is assigned to an unidentified manuscript.
The collection is separate from the manuscripts opened in this session. The Sanming Tonghui is read directly from its public GitHub translation directory. The reader checks for updates on opening and every five minutes while the page is visible. Local imports are not saved to a collection or uploaded. Local files with the same name are revisions of one text. Give different works different filenames. Switch works without changing the reader.
Your place stays yours
Reading positions, bookmarks, appearance preferences, selected excerpts and your notes stay in this browser’s storage. Imported manuscripts are held in memory only. Highlights deliberately save the words you select. You can also save an offline reading copy. There is no analytics code or remote font dependency.
